BP and Kosmos catch a whale with Orca-1 well offshore Mauritania
This report is currently unavailable
Report summary
A major gas discovery was announced with the Orca-1 well, drilled just south of the BirAllah discovery, offshore Mauritania. Partners in the well are Kosmos, BP and Mauritania's NOC SMHPM. The discovery is estimated to hold 13 tcf of gas in place and would underpin another LNG hub north of the cross-border Tortue development. Gas developments in the region are going to have to compete for buyers in the competitive global LNG market, in which the US is set to become the biggest supplier in the world by 2024. But the lower cost of Orca and BirAllah's gas can make it more competitive.
