China shale surprises on the upside
Report summary
China shale gas output jumped to over 20 bcm (1.9 bcfd) in 2020, up 30% year-on-year. While still 33% short of the government’s 2020 target of 30 bcm, it is a solid performance and nearly 10% higher than we expected. But, can it last? Can the Chinese NOCs meet ambitious 2025 production targets and keep growing shale gas? And will we ever see a more diverse company landscape in China's shale sector?
