Imperial Oil's Cold Lake in-situ operation is located 300 kilometres northeast of Edmonton and was the first commercial in-situ oil sands operation. Bitumen is recovered using the Cyclic Steam Stimulation (CSS) extraction technique for Phases 1-16. The Grand Rapids development coming on production in 2024 will use Solvent Assisted-Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SA-SAGD).Cold Lake is 100% owned by Imperial and is a key asset for the company.
