Encana announced today that it will be the latest in a string of energy companies to re-brand: becoming Ovintiv. The company also announced plans to change to a US domicile. This follows similar re-branding by Centrica (now Spirit Energy), Statoil (now Equinor) and others. The company stated the move does not represent a shift in strategy, but a desire to access deeper pools of investment capital in the United States, including American Index funds, and to level the playing field with its main peers in the region.
