Both companies have been active in recent years in building up sizeable Shelf positions through acquisition. The deal will see the combination of two complimentary portfolios, which are centred around high-quality, liquids-weighted assets in the Central Planning Area. Together, the new entity will operate 10 of the top 50 Shelf fields, ranked by cumulative production. While these assets, and the region in general, are mature, Energy XXI sees significant upside through various avenues.
