On 5 January 2018, ExxonMobil announced its sixth discovery in Guyana's Stabroek block with the Ranger-1 well. It encountered 70 metres of oilbearing carbonate reservoir, unlike the Maastrichtian- Aptian age sandstones of previous discoveries. We estimate Guyana ranks fifth globally for discoveries made from 2015 to 2017. Guyana also stands out since its finds are mainly oil while many recent discoveries have been gas.
