The Ezzaouia oil field is located onshore on the Zarzis peninsula, south of Djerba Island in the southern Gulf of Gabes. Marathon discovered the field in 1986 on its Zarzis exploration licence and brought the field onstream in 1990. Ezzaouia produces oil and associated gas. Until 2003, produced gas had been flared but was harnessed as feedstock for the SEEB power plant at Zarzis. In 2005, the power plant stopped receiving gas due to technical problems. Since then, no further gas sales have been made.
