The Fayum fields, located north of Apache/Sinopec's Beni Suef development in Egypt's Western Desert, are approximately 80 kilometres southwest of Cairo.Exploration began in 2005. In 2008, Merlon International (now Pharos Energy) made its first discovery with the Silah-1 well. Seventeen oil fields have since been discovered.In 2009, early production facilities (EPF) were installed to allow production from Kahk, Silah, North Silah Deep, Tersa, and Tersa NE.
