Gabon is currently the fourth largest oil producer in Sub-Saharan Africa after Nigeria, Angola and Congo-Brazzaville. Production peaked at around 370,000 b/d in 1996 and has been in decline since. Production in 2020 was significantly hampered by the oil price crash. As an OPEC member, Gabon agreed to temporarily cut production with targets as low as 144,000 b/d, 35% lower than 2019 production.
