The Hibernia Project is located in the Jeanne d'Arc Basin, 315 kilometres to the southeast of St John's, Newfoundland. The original Hibernia field was discovered in 1979 and brought onstream in November 1997. The development was delayed initially due to uncertain fiscal terms and subsequently the oil-price fall of 1986.Hibernia is a fixed platform consisting of a gravity-based structure and production topsides.
