Is there any value in tracking DUCs?
Report summary
Drilled but uncompleted wells (DUCs) are tracked and analyzed to predict Lower 48 supply implications and operator spending patterns. Since production won’t begin until the well is completed, the DUC count is typically cited as a representation of the amount of production that is ready to come online at short notice. However, the DUC count is better thought of as work in progress inventory. We have yet to see a market-disrupting supply event despite a growing DUC count since 2016.
