The Koula development area is under the Awoun licence and lies north of the Rabi, Avocette and Coucal fields, onshore Gabon. In 2002, Shell Gabon made two light oil discoveries, Koula and Damier. Damier was too small and challenging to develop at the time, but Koula was declared commercial, and a development licence was carved out in 2007.
