Masjed-e-Soleyman was the first oil field discovered in Iran. It is located approximately 90 kilometres northeast of the city of Ahvaz in western Iran, near the border with Iraq. The field is a mature super-giant that primarily produces from the prolific Oligocene Asmari horizons, a formation which underpins Iranian crude oil production.
