The Milne Point field is located 40 kilometres (25 miles) to the northwest of the Prudhoe Bay field, within the Milne Point Unit. The field currently produces from three formations: Sag River, Kuparuk and Schrader Bluff. Various tests have also proven extraction from the Ugnu Formation. The field was discovered in 1969 and was delineated by Conoco in the early 1980's. The field was not sanctioned until 1984 and production began in November of the following year.
