Nigerian elections: Buhari wins a second presidential term
Report summary
On 27 February, Muhammadu Buhari was declared winner of the presidential election. The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate received 15.2 million votes while his main rival from the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, received 11.3 million votes. Atiku is contesting the results. There is a heightened risk of unrest, particularly in the PDP-supporting Niger Delta, and a repeat of the 2016 militancy could be a major blow to the oil industry. Issues around petroleum reforms remain to be resolved. We take a look at what's at stake in the oil industry over the next four years.
