Origin acquires Karoon's interest in the Poseidon gas fields for US$600 million
This report is currently unavailable
Report summary
This is a bold move by Origin into what is not only one of Australia's largest offshore gas discoveries of the last decade, but also one of the most remote. Wood Mackenzie currently estimates that the fields – which lie around 950 kilometres from the nearest operational LNG plant in Darwin – contain around 4 tcf of gas and 51 million barrels of condensate. The deal signals Origin's intent to bulk up its Australian upstream portfolio and further develop its LNG expertise.
