Q1 2021 pre-FID upstream project tracker: Qatar's new LNG giant makes a splash
Report summary
It was no surprise that 2020 was a meagre year for upstream FIDs. But a flurry of project sanctions in December took the final tally into double figures. And 2021 has started with a bang as Qatar Petroleum approved the largest single LNG project in history. Integrated gas and deepwater oil projects will continue to drive upstream investment through the coming year. However, the industry is still burning from the scars of 2020 and the pace of recovery remains uncertain.
