Qatar Petroleum has invited a number of major international oil companies to bid for a stake in the giant Al Shaheen oil field when the current production sharing contract expires in mid-2017. It is the country's largest oil field, producing nearly 40% of the country's oil in 2014. Maersk Oil (operator and 100% holder of the current PSC) had been seeking an extension.
