Located 90 kilometres northwest of Ahvaz on the Iraq border, the Sohrab field was discovered in 2012. This oilfield, one of the National Iranian Oil Company's (NIOC's) recent discoveries, contains an estimated 2 billion barrels of oil in place. Sohrab neighbours the giant Azadegan oilfield.NIOC and Dana Energy, a local company, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in 2012 to develop the Sohrab field.
