Swanson River is one of the largest onshore oil fields in the Cook Inlet Basin. The Swanson River field was discovered in 1957 and began producing in 1958. It was one of the first fields to come onstream in the Cook Inlet Basin and the first to produce from a wildlife refuge in Alaska.
