Timor-Leste and Australian maritime border agreement paves the way for Sunrise and Buffalo

Report summary

The Maritime Boundary Treaty settling the border dispute between Australia and Timor-Leste has been signed in a ceremony in Dili today. The key fields affected are Greater Sunrise, an LNG-scale gas field and Buffalo, a 30 million barrel oil resource. This agreement removes several hurdles – it defines the border and formalises the Greater Sunrise governance structure and tax sharing arrangement between the two countries. Before either project can be sanctioned each project must agree to PSC terms, finalise the development concepts and complete engineering studies.
