Report summary
West African exploration has pivoted toward Cretaceous plays, with opportunities in both frontier and mature basins. Breakthrough discoveries on both sides of the Atlantic margin have challenged conventional geological thinking, pushing exploration opportunities far beyond traditional boundaries. Advances in geological understanding, cutting-edge seismic acquisition and imaging technologies and enhanced deepwater drilling capabilities have been pivotal in unlocking new potential. Majors backed by selected international NOCs lead bold exploration campaigns. But reservoir quality, gas content and infrastructure remain key hurdles.
