Yemen is a mature oil province affected by civil war; its production peaked in 2002 at 460,000 b/d and has declined since. Yemen has been in civil war since 2015, but violence and attacks had also disrupted production in the preceding years. A wide scale production shut-in occurred in 2015, after export terminals were closed. IOCs also chose to evacuate expat staff and suspend operations.
