Wood Mackenzie's Q1-2026 Global Copper Mine Cost Summary analyzes the impact of the Middle East conflict on different cost components. Driven by elevated by‑product credits, global copper C1 costs are projected to fall in 2026. However, oil, acid and general inflation present key upside risks. A sustained rally in crude oil prices following Middle East disruptions could materially lift fuel and energy costs. At the same time, supply constraints on sulfur exports through the Strait of Hormuz risk tightening sulfuric acid markets, with a 50% increase in acid prices expected to raise global C1 costs by around 2%, and by up to 6% for SxEw operations.
