Wood Mackenzie will be holding our flagship event, the 13th Annual Indonesian Energy Forum (IEF) on Wednesday, 13th March in Jakarta, Indonesia. 

Every year, IEF brings together more than 100 participants from various energy organisations in Indonesia and southeast Asia. The participants will gain unique insights into the Indonesia energy market and the challenges and opportunities facing the Indonesia's energy sector presented by senior analysts from Wood Mackenzie.

      • Gavin joined Wood Mackenzie in 1997, managing the company's Asia Pacific Energy Markets team from 2000-2003. Between 2003-2014 Gavin was based in Beijing managing Wood Mackenzie’s China research. During this time he worked on a range of projects with domestic and international energy companies including the development of international growth strategies, upstream opportunity screening, LNG project evaluation, Chinese provincial gas price forecasting, analysis of the Chinese CBM market, and the influence of China on Pacific Basin gas markets and pricing. Gavin relocated to Wood Mackenzie’s Tokyo office in early 2014 to head Wood Mackenzie’s gas and power research across North East Asia. In Early 2016 Gavin returned to Beijing to head Wood Mackenzie’s overall China consulting team. In 2017, Gavin moved to Singapore to lead the Asia Pacific Research. Gavin graduated from Newcastle University with a first class honours degree in Politics, Economics and Chinese Language.

      The global energy transition casts a long shadow over the future of conventional energy markets. But what does it mean, and when and how will its impact be felt?

      Speakers

      • Sushant has over 15 years of experience in the energy industry with strong focus on refining, crude oil and chemicals industry. He established and grew Wood Mackenzie’s downstream oils/refining research practice in Asia. Sushant heads up the team in Asia which is responsible to pull together the analysis of the key trends and issues in the oils and refining market both regionally and globally. Sushant has authored a series of research and consulting reports, which creates great commercial value to the clients. Sushant is a recognized expert in refining and oils market and is often interviewed by Media such as CNBC, Reuters, Bloomberg, and Wall Street Journal. He is regularly invited to deliver keynote speeches for many industrial conferences and discussion with senior clients. Sushant joined Wood Mackenzie in 2007 after working for five years with Singapore Refining Company where he gained extensive experience in crude evaluation and purchase, refinery production planning, refinery economics, and product supply planning. He also has over three years of experience with Schenectady International group – India, a leading petrochemicals manufacturer in India. Sushant holds a First class masters degree in Chemical Engineering from the National University of Singapore.

    • 2. How is small scale LNG progressing in Indonesia?

      • Asti is the Principal Analyst for the APAC Gas and LNG Research team. She joined Wood Mackenzie in 2019 covering the regional market outlook. With a strong experience in the LNG and domestic supply chain, Asti provides commercial insight into the market dynamics in the region. She develops Wood Mackenzie’s individual country analysis and infrastructure trends, and leverages these into insights on how the country dynamics impact the regional LNG trends. Asti joined Wood Mackenzie after 10 years with ExxonMobil, where she was the Head of LNG Market Development. During her time with ExxonMobil, she has worked across the value chain for both LNG and pipeline gas, covering operations, contract development and negotiations. Asti holds a B.Eng from Sheffield University, an MSc from University of Warwick and M Int. from University of Queensland.

    • Understanding the next commodity price cycle

      The global fundamentals of oil, coal and LNG are diverging. What are the drivers and implications for price? How will Indonesia be impacted as both an exporter and importer of energy?

      • Nicholas joined Wood Mackenzie in 2007 as a consultant in London. He has been based in Singapore since 2012. He contributes commercial analysis on LNG and gas markets, pricing and trends across Asia. He also leads Wood Mackenzie’s global LNG Corporate research. An energy markets and LNG specialist, he has advised on several major international infrastructure transactions and project financing engagements. He also completed projects across the gas value chain such as on gas monetization options, transport economics and market entry strategies. Nicholas joined Wood Mackenzie from Total, where he worked on their gas & power trading floor, in addition to gas sales and marketing. Nicholas holds a B.A. from Trinity College Dublin, an M.Sc. from the London School of Economics and an MBA from INSEAD.

      • Shirley has over 10 years of metals&mining corporate and industry research experiences. She joined Wood Mackenzie in 2012 and is responsible for the Asia Pacific thermal coal markets analysis based in Singapore. She is a frequent speaker at regional mining conferences and has presented strategic analysis at clients’ board meetings in the region. Her most recent focus is Southeast Asia as a growth market for thermal coal and fuel competition studies within Northeast Asia. Prior to joining Wood Mackenzie, Shirley was an equity research analyst covering HK/China-listed coal, steel and metal recycling stocks. She also worked for a financial consulting firm based in London. Shirley holds an Mphil degree from Cambridge University and a Bsc degree in Accounting and Finance from Warwick Business School, UK.

    • Attracting upstream investment in volatile times

      Capital discipline remains key as the upstream sector emerges from the downturn and returns to growth. How are governments evolving their offerings to attract investment, and what are investors looking for?

      Speakers

      • Graham has 30 years experience as a petroleum economist, specialising in the analysis of global fiscal systems. He currently directs Wood Mackenzie’s global fiscal research services. Graham has advised several governments on petroleum fiscal policy, most recently Colombia, Ireland, Newfoundland & Labrador and South Africa. He has also advised numerous IOCs on fiscal matters, including assistance to oil industry associations during debates with governments on appropriate fiscal terms (e.g. Nigeria and UK). Graham has designed and authored several successful multi-client reports, analysing and comparing global fiscal systems with prospectivity, published by Wood Mackenzie. He also has wide experience delivering training courses in petroleum economics and fiscal analysis around the world. Graham graduated in Economics from Aberdeen University and earned a masters degree (M Litt) for his thesis on ‘Oil Field Abandonment in the UKCS’. He previously worked for Petroconsultants/IHS Energy, two independent oil exploration companies and as a research Fellow in Aberdeen University’s Economics department. He is a member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN) and is a regular speaker at industry conferences.

    • 1. How have global upstream themes and corporate strategies evolved?

      Speakers

      • Andrew is responsible for Wood Mackenzie's Asia Pacific oil & gas research, working closely with the analyst teams in Beijing, Delhi, Perth and Singapore. Based in Singapore since 2010, Andrew specialises in providing analysis and insight on global upstream investment themes, NOC and IOC corporate strategy, M&A trends, exploration performance and fiscal benchmarking. During his time with Wood Mackenzie, Andrew has worked on a number of consultancy projects, including fiscal benchmarking, corporate strategy analysis, growth opportunity screening, portfolio valuation and infrastructure studies. He is also regular speaker at conferences and forums around the region. Before moving to Asia, Andrew was an analyst in Wood Mackenzie's European Upstream team, having joined the company in 2005. Prior to joining Wood Mackenzie, Andrew spent four years with Reuters Research, providing research and analysis on public companies around the world. Andrew graduated from Heriot Watt University in 2001 with a BA (Hons) Combined Studies degree in Management and Investment Finance.

    • 2. What is the outlook for Indonesia's E&P sector?

      • 10+ years of upstream experience across the Asia-Pacific region Johan joined Wood Mackenzie in 2014, and is currently a lead analyst in the South-East Asia upstream research team. Analysed field economics, corporate strategies, industry and market trends across the region. Participated in a wide range of consulting projects for IOCs and NOCs, including new business development, M&A, regional basin screening and gas development. Prior to working at Wood Mackenzie, Johan worked for Eni in Indonesia as Senior Petroleum Economist. His work there covered thirteen exploration and production blocks in Indonesia, including a deepwater development. Prior to ENI, Johan had 5 years with Schlumberger in various roles, from designing petro-technical data centre to real-time drilling services. He spent the bulk of his experience with Schlumberger as a Petroleum Economist, working on PSC modelling, decision analysis, and project valuation. Johan came from a computer science background, holding a Bachelor's degree from Bandung Institute of Technology.
