      Speakers

      • Richard Wilson joined Wood Mackenzie in 1982 and he is currently based in the company’s Guildford office in the UK. He is an expert in the field of metals supply economics with a particular focus on copper and is a recognised authority on the markets for copper concentrates, blister/anodes and cathodes. Key client engagements include: Raw materials and metals market analyses in support of IPOs and other financing deals; mining and smelting asset valuations; concentrate sales and procurement strategies; expert witness and expert advisor services to copper mining, trading and smelting companies, specialising in contractual non-performance and disputes with revenue and tax authorities in relation to the fair pricing of copper raw materials. Richard holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Mineral Processing from the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College London.

    • Economic outlook

      • Jon leads our economics research team, responsible for developing and maintaining our macroeconomic forecasts. Jon is responsible for developing our global economic outlook, working with researchers and economists across the world to ensure that our whole team has a consistent and integrated set of assumptions and calculations on which to base their insights and analysis. In the past, Jon was an Analyst at Macquarie Bank, where he was part of the commodities research team looking at base metals, iron ore and coal.     • Copper: demand shifting back into focus

      • Paul joined Wood Mackenzie in 2006. Previously he worked for Metso Minerals where he worked for 18 years in the design and supply of mineral processing equipment and systems. Paul has a degree in mineral processing technology from Camborne School of Mines and is a chartered engineer. Paul is principal supply analyst for Wood Mackenzie‘s copper markets research team.

    • Aluminium: surplus? What surplus?

      • Kamil joined Wood Mackenzie in 2013 as a Senior Research Analyst in the Aluminium Markets team. He is based in Wood Mackenzie’s London office. Kamil Wlazly has been working in base metals research for the past 7 years. Before joining Wood Mackenzie he worked for Metal Bulletin Research as the Base Metals analyst for 3 years. Kamil joined Wood Mackenzie in 2013 where he works as a Senior Metals Analyst covering primary aluminium markets and aluminium products.

    • Iron ore: it might be slowing but it’s still growing!

      • Paul joined Wood Mackenzie in 2011 as Principal Iron Ore Market Analyst. He is responsible for the delivery and development of Wood Mackenzie's Iron Ore Market Service. Prior to joining Wood Mackenzie Paul worked for 15 years as a commodities analyst with Australian stockbroker JBWere and subsequently Goldman Sachs. Paul has over 25 years experience in commodities analysis in the financial services and consultancy sectors, most of which has been spent analysing the metals and mining sector.

    • Zinc: the only way is up?

      • Andrew Thomas has followed metal markets for over 20 years. For the first nine of these he was the metal markets editor of Mining Journal the leading weekly global mining newspaper. He subsequently joined Wood Mackenzie (then Brook Hunt) as its refined zinc market analyst, and has held this position, now as principal metals market analyst, for twelve years.  He has a BSc in Geology from Royal Holloway New College, University of London and an MSc in Mineral Exploration and Project Evaluation from the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College, University of London. Andrew co-authors the Zinc Metals Market Service.

    • Lead: death by battery, or a spark of new life?

      • Farid Ahmed joined Wood Mackenzie in February 2015 as Principal Analyst Lead Markets, bringing twenty-five years of lead industry experience in roles including R&D, operations and commercial. Prior to joining Wood Mackenzie, Farid founded a business consultancy focusing on the metals industry – and on lead in particular – with engagements including market analysis, raw materials acquisition, process development, product failure, capital investment and expert witness. Farid holds a BEng (Hons) degree in Metallurgy from the University of Leeds and co-authors the Lead Metals Market Service.

    • Nickel, EVs and the challenge of future supply

      • Sean Mulshaw has followed the nickel and stainless markets for more than 10 years since joining Wood Mackenzie in 2005. He previously held analyst positions with Roskill and the Mining Journal, and was a post-doctoral researcher at the Royal School of Mines in London for about eight years. He has a degree in Geology from the University of Reading and a PhD in Geology from Imperial College. Sean is the co-author of the Nickel Metal Service and contributes towards the Nickel Industry Cost Service and the Nickel Intermediates Service.

    • Decarbonisation and the impact on metals

      • Gavin Montgomery joined Wood Mackenzie in May 2011 to help launch the Iron Ore Market Service. Since then he progressed to manage Wood Mackenzie’s metals markets research including the Metals Market Service, Concentrates Service, Steel Market Service and Iron Ore Market Service. More recently he has moved into cross-commodity analysis focusing on battery raw materials. Before entering the metals world, Gavin spent five years living and working across various parts of East Asia for a shipping and logistics company. Gavin holds an MA Chinese from the University of Edinburgh and an MSc International Management from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).
