Predictions for the year ahead

What's inside this year's report?

2021 has proven how dynamic the gas and power markets in the Southern Cone are. And many uncertainties will be carried to 2022, especially regarding the extent of the impact from the historic drought.

Our report details three major events we expect will mostly shape 2022:

  1. The new pipeline between Neuquen and Buenos Aires in Argentina will represent a milestone for its gas market, helping the country to keep growing domestic production and reduce import dependency.
  2. In Brazil, improving hydro reservoir levels will be key to softening the gas balance and reducing dependency on expensive LNG.
  3. Generators in Chile will have the opportunity to win 15-year PPAs in two regulated auctions totalling 7.5 TWh a year.
