NG3 pipeline begins deliveries ahead of schedule

Momentum Midstream’s new Louisiana system ramps up with 300 mmcfd of early flows

1 minute read

As new LNG demand centres continue to drive Gulf Coast growth, Haynesville producers are seeing a surge in takeaway capacity. The latest addition, Momentum Midstream’s NG3 pipeline, is already flowing gas months ahead of schedule. Here’s what we’re seeing so far.

The facts

Momentum Midstream’s New Generation Gas Gathering (NG3) pipeline quietly entered the scene in late August, with scheduled flows beginning just before month-end. Throughout September, NG3 has continued commissioning, consistently delivering around 300 mmcfd across four visible interconnects.

NG3 is the latest large-scale intrastate gas gathering system in Louisiana, following the Louisiana Energy Gateway (LEG) pipeline, which began first flows in late July. Together, they represent a significant boost in takeaway capacity from the Haynesville Shale.

Our take

While NG3 flows have yet to exceed 300 mmcfd – well below the pipeline’s full capacity – the fact that deliveries have started at all is notable. The pipeline was originally expected to enter service in late Q4 2025, making this early commissioning a meaningful milestone.

Most current volumes are being delivered to the TC Louisiana Intrastate Pipeline, with ongoing testing at Transco and Cameron Interstate interconnects. Additional tie-ins with Creole Trail and TETCO are anticipated in the coming months.

With roughly 3.5 Bcfd of new Haynesville takeaway capacity entering service in 2025 via LEG and NG3, producers in the basin are well positioned to ramp up output – particularly as LNG export demand continues to climb. Looking ahead, the next bump in takeaway will likely come from the LEAP Wellhead-to-Water Phase 4 expansion (200 mmcfd), slated for Q2 2026.
