Sam Algar

Sam joined Beach Energy in February 2021 and is responsible for Beach’s exploration, new ventures, geoscience and reservoir engineering functions. Prior to Beach Sam worked in various leadership and technical capacities at Oil Search, Ophir Energy, Murphy Oil, ENI, LASMO and Enterprise Oil. Whilst now a proud Aussie, Sam hails from the UK and has also lived in the US, Malaysia, Indonesia, Canada and spent a fair bit of time in Trinidad and Venezuela whilst doing his PhD in the last millennium.
Sam has worked throughout SE Asia, Australia, West and East Africa, Europe, Canada and the USA, discovering, appraising and developing fields as well as learning from dry holes! Most recently, Sam was part of the team that secured Oil Search’s entry into Alaska and discovered two multi-hundred mmbbl oil discoveries in 2020.
At Beach Sam is accountable for the value creation from prioritisation and drilling of over 120 wells per year in onshore and offshore Australia and New Zealand as well as longer term strategic direction.
