Calenturitas is a currently suspended surface mine operating in the Cesar Department of Colombia. The mine utilises typical truck-and-shovel mining techniques and produced 10.9 Mt in 2019. The mine was suspended with the start of the coronavirus pandemic and never reopened due to poor market conditions. Glencore relinquished the mining contracts back to the Colombian government in February 2021 and the reserves are now under control of Colombia’s National Mining Association (NMA) until they can find a new owner for the mine.
