Clermont is a large surface mine in Queensland’s Bowen Basin producing thermal coal for export markets. It operates within mining leases ML 1884,ML 1904 and ML 70343. The mine is located 234 kilometres southwest of Mackay and 10 kilometres north of the township of Clermont. The mine is majority-owned by a joint venture between Glencore and Sumitomo and is operated by Glencore on behalf of the joint venture. Clermont was established to replace coal from the Blair Athol mine, which was closed by then-owner Rio Tinto in 2012.
