In 2021, Bravus (formerly Adani Australia) commenced production at the Carmichael open-cut mine. The coal tenements are located approximately 160 kilometres north-west of the town of Clermont. Carmichael's coal resources lie within Exploration Permit for Coal (EPC) 1690 and Mining Lease Applications (MLA) 70441, 70505 and 70506 have been submitted for the project.
