El Descanso coal mine

El Descanso coal mine

Report summary

The El Descanso mine is located north of the Pribbenow mine in the El Descanso North concession area.  Drummond acquired the mining concession from Ecocarbon in September 1998 through an international bidding process.  The concession is set to expire in September 2029 but we expect an extension to be granted to the mine to extend mining to 2042.  Drummond received final mining and environmental permits for the mine in 2008, and the mine started production in 2009.
