Report summary
Goedgevonden produced its first coal in 2004. The mine is located 25 kilometres southwest of the town of Ogies in the Mpumalanga Province and covers the Goedgevonden 10 IS, Zaaiwater 11 IS and Ogiesfontein 4 IS farms. It forms a key part of Glencore's strategy to focus South African production on a series of large-scale surface complexes, with an increasing quantity of coal exports. Goedgevonden also produces thermal coal for the domestic power sector.
