Luminant Coal Plant Retirements Impact More than Power Generation in ERCOT
This report is currently unavailable
Report summary
Luminant has announced it will retire 3 coal-fired plants in Texas in early 2018. Big Brown, Monticello, and Sandow have a combined generating capacity of over 4,000 MW that be retired, if allowed to proceed by ERCOT. These plants have been facing adverse economic conditions for a while, and proposed policy changes are unlikely to help. Powder River Basin coal production and rail companies will also be impacted by the shut-downs.
