North American coal markets: contracting and deliveries in 2018
Report summary
Market expectations for coal demand in 2018 remain neutral. Deliveries in January 2018 totalled 50.3 Mst (2.5 bcfde), a decline of 12% compared with the previous January. Spot deliveries totalled 5.8 Mst (0.3 bcfde), while 44.4 Mst (2.2 bcfde) was delivered under contractual agreements. Deliveries via contracts that expire sometime in 2018, totalled 28.3 Mst (1.5 bcfde), a decline of 22% compared with January 2017.
