The Muara Tiga Besar Utara (MTBU) mine is owned by state-owned company PT Bukit Asam (PTBA). It is located within the 664 square kilometre Tanjung Enim concession located in the Muara Enim and Lahat regencies, South Sumatra. The mine operates under an IUP mining permit. The majority of coal produced from MTBU is sub-bituminous coal that is sold into domestic markets, with the remainder exported.
