United Wambo is a surface mine in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales producing thermal and semi-soft coking coal for the export market. United Wambo is a consolidation of the surface reserves at the Wambo mine operated by Peabody and reserves at the adjoining United tenements majority owned by Glencore. Mining activities take place within Mining Lease (ML) 1572, Authorisation A444, Coal Lease 374 and Consolidated Coal Lease 775. Peabody's Wambo North underground mine and Wambo South undergound project (covered in separate analyses) also exist in the Wambo complex which is located 15 kilometres west of Singleton, near the village of Warkworth.
