US coal versus natural gas competition 2018 - 2021
Report summary
Coal and natural gas supply, demand and prices will remain in direct competition for the foreseeable future. However, unlike 2016 and 2017, the North America coal market is approaching 'balance' with coal stockpiles approaching more normal levels. In this insight, we forecast how the competition will affect North American coal markets. The combination of increasing renewable generation and weak load growth will limit natural gas or coal generation.
