APAC Energy Buzz: Australia’s gas conundrum
This report is currently unavailable
Report summary
Australia's gas is in the wrong places. Despite laying claim to the crown of world’s largest LNG exporter in 2021, rising domestic demand and maturing supply sources mean that unless significant new reserves are brought onstream, Australia's eastern and southern states will soon be short of gas. But with domestic gas demand forecasts being cooled by expectations of strong growth in renewables, and the prospects of gas supply availability into the east coast now improving, how significant might eastern Australia’s gas shortfall be and what does it mean for Queensland’s LNG exporters?
Table of contents
- East coast gas in good shape, for now
- A narrower supply-demand gap
- Domestic gas prices increasingly set by Pacific spot LNG
- Implications for Queensland’s LNG exporters
