Do 2030 renewable targets extend or hinder EU ambitions?
This report is currently unavailable
Report summary
An ambitious new set of renewables targets have been agreed by the European Union, ending a 20-month debate on an integral part of the Europe's clean energy package. The defining headline of the new framework is a binding 2030 renewable energy target for the EU of 32%, with a possibility for upward revision in 2023. The agreement provides the clarity and certainty that many in the renewables industry have yearned for in recent times. However, the increasing disparity between Member States' stances on targets -and their capabilities in meeting them- highlights that the collective European transition is far from straightforward, particularly at higher levels of renewable energy penetration.
