Commodity Market Report
India energy markets outlook 2015 - power
Report summary
India's power sector is struggling with excess capacity and declining margins. Total generation capacity exceeded 300 GW by end of 2014. However, many new thermal plants are operating at low utilization levels due to fuel supply shortages, demand weakness and the inability of distribution utilities to purchase more power due to their poor finances. India's electricity consumption per capita stands at just 741 kWh. An estimated 280 million people do not have connections to electricity.
