Biomethane in Brazil: state of the market
Report summary
Current biomethane production in Brazil is only 0.3% of the country’s potential, mostly due to elevated costs and limited reach of the gas network. However, environmental commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, government and state incentives and recent soaring LNG and natural gas prices have propelled companies to explore this great potential and gave traction to the biomethane market. In this report, we explore: • Biomethane production potential by state and by source; • Existing and announced projects for the following years; • Investment costs of existing projects by technology and capacity; and • Current biomethane regulatory framework and government incentives for biomethane production.
