2019 was a milestone year for LNG supply. The ramp-up of projects in Australia saw it become the world’s number one LNG supplier. The ramp up of projects elsewhere in Russia and the US saw an additional 37 mmtpa hit the water, the second highest year for new supply growth after 2010. Despite the negative impact on LNG prices with the wave of new LNG supply, it was also a record year for project sanctions. By end-2019, a further 71 mmtpa of new LNG supply was sanctioned in the US, Russia, Mozambique and Nigeria.
