Four trading houses, Trafigura, Vitol, Gunvor and Glencore, dominate the LNG trading landscape outside of the portfolio players. In 2017, these four firms traded approximately 27 Mt of LNG, accounting for 9% of the 290 Mt of LNG sold worldwide. Most of these companies initially built their positions on a cargo-by-cargo approach, capitalising on the emerging LNG import markets of Egypt, Pakistan and Argentina. However, now they resemble mini portfolio players. In this pack, we firstly assess the strategic trends of the largest traders.
