Everett was built by the Cabot Corporation to serve winter peaking gas needs for several local utilities in Massachusetts. As peak-shaving requirements are often short term and highly contingent upon weather, LNG can be a better option than new pipeline builds for this purpose. It is the only regasification facility in the US that has remained in continuous service since its inception.
