Global LNG supply tracker Q1 2019: strong LNG supply casts a shadow over summer
Report summary
Global LNG output reached 326 Mt of LNG in 2018 (+9% y-o-y). Supply performed strongly in Q4 – increasing a whopping +10% (versus Q3). This has triggered a push of LNG into the European market as mild weather has kept Asian demand in check. LNG supply is expected to grow +38.5 Mt (+12%) to 365 Mt in 2019. We expect limited supply growth through the second half of 2019 until new Atlantic projects ramp up. Growth will extend into 2020 as the final trains are added at US LNG facilities. We forecast 395 Mt of LNG (+8.3% y-o-y) but with a risk of downside to US supply if prices crash. This report includes global monthly LNG supply data at a plant level.
