Construction work at the Joetsu terminal started in April 2007. The terminal received its commissioning cargo in October 2011 from Indonesia. In February 2012, a second cargo arrived, this time from Qatar, in order to begin trial operations of the power plant. Since then cargoes have come from a wide range of sources, reflecting Chubu Electrics diverse contract base. The initial phase of the Joetsu development includes three 180,000 m³ LNG storage tanks.
