LNG contracting themes: The Russian invasion of Ukraine has had an enormous impact on long-term contracting
Report summary
Long-term contracting is off to a fast start this year with more than 50 mmtpa signed including 23 mmtpa to end-market users. Chinese buyers have dominated the market, signing more than 12 mmpta of new LNG SPAs. Due to the conflict, many traditional LNG buyers will not procure spot gas or LNG from Russia. These buyers will also not renew or sign additional LNG contracts with Russian sellers. However, Price sensitive buyers have taken spot volumes at steep discounts.
