Q4 2018 North America LNG projects update: FIDs imminent on three Gulf Coast projects
Report summary
The US Gulf Coast remains the key growth province for North America LNG. There's been significant commercial progress in 2018, notably in the signing of long-term offtake to support project financing. Since September, Cheniere Marketing (CMI), Venture Global, Freeport LNG, Sempra, Tellurian and Woodfibre have all announced offtake agreements to underpin new capacity. FIDs are now imminent on three Gulf Coast projects. At least two others may not be far behind. But the sanctioning of LNG Canada in October shows that North America LNG is no longer solely a Gulf Coast play. Additional west Canadian capacity could further help open Canadian supply to global markets, and we are now seeing momentum around Mexico as an alternative export route for US production.
